Chelsea Targets Benfica Defender

Araújo, 22 years old, is considered one of the most prominent defensive talents in Portugal and has attracted the interest of several major European clubs, including Chelsea and Real Madrid, who have recently communicated informally with Benfica to inquire about the player’s situation.
Araújo is seen as a promising element capable of adding value to a three-man defense system, especially with his significant abilities in play-building and noticeable improvement on the defensive level.
Despite the significant interest, Benfica remains firm in its stance against selling the player unless the full buyout clause of 80 million euros is paid. Both Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain submitted offers last summer that reached 60 million euros, but they were met with a categorical rejection.
Araújo’s contract with Benfica extends until June 2029, after he renewed his contract in 2023 following a standout season. Although there is currently no official offer, Chelsea continues to monitor the situation in anticipation of any changes during the summer transfer period.
