Barcelona Reaches Agreement with Flick for Contract Renewal

The Spanish club Barcelona has reached a final agreement with its German coach Hans Flick to renew his contract until the summer of 2027, following intensive discussions between the two parties in recent days. However, the official announcement will be postponed until the end of the current season.

The decision to delay comes amid the team’s complete focus on competing in three crucial tournaments: La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League, as Barcelona aims to achieve a historic treble.

Despite a full agreement between the management and the coach, Barcelona currently lacks the financial fair play margin to officially register the renewal. La Liga had rejected the deal for selling luxury boxes in the new Camp Nou, which affected the club’s financial situation.

Barcelona is waiting to complete the construction of the boxes before June 30, so that the revenues can be included in the season’s budget, allowing for the possibility of registering new contracts.

Flick’s desire has been clear from the beginning not to sign a long-term contract, preferring to renew season by season. Nevertheless, the management has agreed with the coach to extend his contract for two years, starting next season with a contract that runs until 2027, providing the necessary stability for the technical project.

Flick stated in previous comments: “I love working at this club, and I prefer to make decisions year by year. If we continue to achieve success and satisfaction, I will gladly continue my mission.”

This contract grants Flick continuity even if Joan Laporta is no longer the president of the club, as the coach will be tied to an additional year contract with any new management, reflecting the club’s complete confidence in its project.
