Rare Injury Ends Season for Union Berlin Player

German newspaper Bild revealed that the season of Portuguese defender Diogo Leite, a player for Union Berlin, has officially ended after he suffered a rare injury with a fracture in the laryngeal cartilage.

This injury occurred during his team’s last match against VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga.

Union Berlin announced in an official statement today, Tuesday, that the player will be absent from training and matches for several weeks until he fully recovers from the injury, which means his current season is over three rounds before the end of the league.

Leite was injured during the match between Union Berlin and Bochum, which took place last Sunday and ended in a 1-1 draw in the 31st round of the Bundesliga.

Union Berlin is currently in thirteenth place in the Bundesliga standings with 36 points, amid a strong battle to secure survival before the end of the season.
