Negative Memories for Al-Hilal After the Seven Goals

Al-Hilal, with its overwhelming victory over South Korea’s Guangzhou, holds a negative memory that threatens the leader’s dream of winning the AFC Champions League title this season.

The Al-Hilal club had showered Guangzhou’s net with seven goals without reply in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League, held at the “Al-Inma” stadium in King Abdullah Sports City, last Friday evening.

Al-Hilal is awaiting, in the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League, to face the winner of the clash between Al-Ahli Jeddah and Buriram from Thailand.

Al-Hilal faces a negative memory when achieving a seven-goal victory in an AFC Champions League match, as it has previously achieved this result against UAE’s Bani Yas and Qatar’s Al-Duhail in the 2012 and 2022 editions.

Al-Hilal won against Bani Yas with a score of 7-1 in the Round of 16 in 2012, but exited the tournament after losing to South Korea’s Ulsan with an aggregate score of 0-5 in the quarter-finals.

Al-Hilal also defeated Qatar’s Al-Duhail with a clean seven-goal victory in the semi-finals of the 2022 edition, but lost the title in the final against Japan’s Urawa after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw and the second leg ended 0-1.
