Controversial Refereeing Ignites the Copa del Rey Final

The first half of the match between Barcelona and Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final ended with the Catalan team leading by one goal to nil, in a match that witnessed significant excitement and objections to controversial refereeing decisions.

Barcelona players protested two incidents during the first half; the first was after a handball by Federico Valverde inside the penalty area, and the second was after a collision between Dani Ceballos and Kobarcy inside the goal area.

Commenting on the two incidents, refereeing expert Alfonso Perez explained through the Spanish newspaper “Marca” that Valverde’s handball does not warrant a penalty kick, clarifying that the player’s hand was on the ground and referee De Burgos was close to the play and saw it, which prevents the intervention of video technology according to the rules.

As for the incident involving Ceballos and Kobarcy, Perez confirmed that it does not warrant a penalty kick in favor of Barcelona, pointing out that both players were holding onto each other.
