Manchester United Prepares an Unexpected Replacement for Goalkeeping

Manchester United is nearing a deal to sign Freddy Woodman, the goalkeeper of Preston North End, during the upcoming summer transfer window, in a free transfer after the end of his contract with his club.

According to ‘Football Insider’, the 28-year-old Woodman has entered Manchester United’s radar to become the third goalkeeper in the team, with the possibility of compensating for the departure of veteran keeper Tom Heaton.

Woodman is having an outstanding season with Preston in the Championship, having kept 17 clean sheets, which has attracted the attention of several clubs, and Manchester United is looking to strengthen the goalkeeping position after Andre Onana’s decline in performance this season.

Despite the difficulty of becoming a starter with Onana in the squad, the English goalkeeper is eager to prove himself in the Premier League after failing to establish himself during his previous stint with Newcastle.

Additionally, signing Woodman on a free transfer will help Manchester United save their budget to strengthen other positions, as part of the plan to rebuild the team in preparation for the next season.
