Ligue 1

We are living a very special day, and we are ready to face Arsenal

Despite the draw with Nantes with a score of 1-1 on Tuesday evening, in a postponed match from the 29th round of the French league, Luis Enrique, the head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, expressed his great pride in the historic number achieved by the team, breaking the record for the most consecutive matches without a loss away from home in the history of the five major leagues.

Enrique said: “Today is a very special day, we have broken a wonderful record that belonged to Milan, and it is a great achievement for the team and for those who came before me.”

Paris Saint-Germain has reached 39 matches without a loss away from home in the league, surpassing Milan’s historic record under Fabio Capello and Arrigo Sacchi.

Despite the result, Enrique defended his players’ performance: “I don’t think we lost control in the second half; I saw complete control, but we were facing a tough opponent with excellent attackers, and they had an effective moment in their equalizing goal.”

He explained: “In the first 30 minutes, we lacked movement off the ball, but the performance improved after that; we were more able to penetrate and advance, but things slipped a bit out of our hands with their goal.”

Regarding Paris Saint-Germain’s readiness to face Arsenal in the Champions League, Enrique commented: “Arsenal’s style of play will determine the scenario; will they press? Will they advance and then become more cautious? We are ready for any type of opponent, whether high pressing or deep defense.”

About the team’s plans for the rest of the season, especially with the Champions League semifinals and the French Cup final approaching, the Spanish coach said: “There is only one month left, we are trying to manage the loads without losing victories, as for the Club World Cup, I consider it part of next season.”

Enrique concluded his remarks by emphasizing the team’s ambitions to continue the streak: “It is true that we have not completed a full season without a loss yet, but breaking Milan’s record gives us a strong boost; everything is going well, we just wanted to win tonight.”
