Gian Piero Gasperini, the head coach of Atalanta, expressed his great happiness after his team’s victory over Milan with a score of 1-0 in the match held at the San Siro stadium as part of the 33rd round of the Italian league.

With this victory, Atalanta strengthened its position in third place in the standings, raising its points to 64, getting one step closer to securing qualification for the Champions League.

Gasperini said: “The goal scored by Ederson was wonderful and decisive, coming after a remarkable collective movement from the wings and midfield players inside the penalty area.”

He added: “We tried to create similar opportunities in the first half but we failed to time it right, before spaces opened up later and we exploited them perfectly.”

He continued: “This season is unbelievable for me, today’s victory gives us a real chance to qualify for the Champions League again, qualifying for the fifth time in seven years would be an exceptional achievement for a club like Atalanta, we know how important that is.”

He confirmed: “The Italian league this season is very competitive, and there is a close gap in points; Bologna’s victory over Inter Milan could have complicated things, so I am proud of the focus and efforts of the players tonight.”

Regarding the possibility of the team feeling regret for not continuing in the race for the Italian league title, Gasperini jokingly replied: “Don’t be silly, we have 64 points, how can we feel regret?”

He concluded his remarks: “Our real goal has always been the Champions League, and if we succeed in achieving it, it will be an exceptional achievement considering the big teams that are behind us in the standings.”
